THE AUTHOR
Isaiah Olson, a college student from Wisconsin, spends most of his time being unemployed. He enjoys sitting around, watching the picture radio, snacking, doodling, and taking naps of epic proportions.
It is rumored that he has the cumulative strength and skill of ten thousand ninjas, and a secret second life as a celebrity astronaut-fireman. Also, his blood is made of Dr Pepper, probably.
He can be contacted at iolson@meatsandfishes.com

THE COMIC
Once Upon a Universe isn't really about anything in particular. It follows characters through their spontaneous conversations fueled by boredom, as well as through their possibly exciting adventures, maybe! It's always a surprise. Tentatively.

This whole thing was originally going to start as a rebirth of a series that was abandoned, known as Unplugged--a comic about games and the people who choose to play them. After realizing that I was only restricting myself by focusing on that topic [and knowing that I'd often be deviating from it anyway], I decided it was best to expand my horizons infinitely. And that's how we got here.

THE QUESTIONS
What do you use to draw your comics?
I draw the comics with a standard mechanical pencil on some good old-fashioned printer paper. Then I scan it into my computer and color it using Adobe Photoshop CS. Once that's all done, I take it into Macromedia Flash MX where I add text and speech bubbles.

Why did you decide to make a comic instead of taking another nap?
It was a very tough decision, but people would occassionally ask me about my other comics. Instead of continuing Unplugged on the course it was going, I began to get a bunch of new ideas for comics, so I started this one. I get a lot of inspiration from other webcomics [which can be found on the links page--most notably, Dresden Codak and minus.]

I know you said you don't want to stick to a strict schedule, but will you give a general time frame so we know when to check back in?
With any luck, I'll try to have a new one up every week.

What is your major?
At ITT Tech, I was in a program for Digital Entertainment and Game Design. However, once I get into the UW schools, I'll probably major in art and dabble in creative writing.

Have you taken any art courses?
I've taken three drawing classes in high school, and at ITT I took another drawing class. Honestly, a lot of my drawing skills have simply come from experience.

What do you plan to do after college in order to continue to be able to take epic naps, yet have a place to nap and food to eat?
Really, I'm hoping to save up over the next three to four years through various jobs. What happens after college, I'm not sure.
