panda is written and illustrated by Isaiah Olson. The first panda was created in a basement during a LAN, when--during a break between games of Halo 2--Isaiah picked up someone's Nintendo DS and began doodling in a Pictochat room by himself. What started as drawings of pandas [which at first turned out to be more koala-esque] eventually spawned a comic of a self-conscious panda bear eating bamboo. The comic was a large success amongst the LAN attendants, and second was created in response. While the second was also a hit, no more were drawn that night. However, Isaiah decided that it'd be a good idea to remake these comics and continue the series for many more to enjoy.

This explains the format of the comic; the short but wide frames are meant to mimic the available drawing area in Pictochat, and the font used in each issue of panda is similar to that found in Pictochat as well. Also, the first two issues here are nearly exact replications of the original comics made on that night in the basement.

panda is simply a comic that follows an intelligent, curious, and bored panda through his days spent at the zoo, and the thoughts that occupy his time there. More often than not, each comic will--more or less--continue off of the issue before it.
