Fairies in the Garden

One of my all-time favorite quotes from Douglas Adams (one of my all-time favorite authors) is this: Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too? It's similar to a question that I've been asking myself and others for years now, and that question is this: why do people insist upon God? Why is this a concept that is still so appealing to people? It is a crutch-- a crutch that initially acted as a support for development, but has since become not only obsolete but even acts as a direct impediment to progress.

If, for some reason, you're wondering what happened to Digital Cross, the answer is this: we killed it's euthanized it, really. We were walking down the city streets one night when we decided, since we certainly hadn't been writing anything for it, and because our main goals for it* had either been compromised or had simply failed to come to fruition, that it would be best to simply shut the behemoth down. And we certainly don't use the word behemoth in regard to its popularity, influence, or, god knows, its amount of content--but rather what it felt like chained to our collective leg.
